RV Front Tire Blowout: What You Need to Know to Stay Safe

When you’re driving an RV, the last thing you want is a front tire blowout. This can be a dangerous situation, not only for you but also for other drivers on the road. We recently read an article highlighting the dangers of a front tire blowout. A couple in a motorhome had a blowout which resulted in the passenger being ejected from the vehicle and both going to the hospital with injuries. In this blog post, we will discuss what you can do to prevent a front tire blowout and stay safe while driving. We’ll also cover what to do if you experience a front tire blowout while on the road.

Seatbelts

One of the best things you can do to prevent serious injury from a front tire blowout in your RV is to wear a seat seatbelt. This may seem like an obvious safety measure, but it’s often overlooked. Wearing a seatbelt will help keep you in your seat if a blowout occurs and will help prevent you from being ejected from the RV.

Safe-T-Plus Bar

Another important safety measure is to use a Safe-T-Plus Bar. This bar helps to stabilize the RV in the event of a blowout. TST Industries make the Safe-T-Plus Bar. We interviewed them on the podcast. Here is a link to the episode to learn more about this product.

Tire Pressure Monitor

If you have tire pressure monitors that monitor both tire temperature and pressure, you’ll be able to catch a blowout before it happens. These monitors are essential for RV safety. You can find them at most truck stops or online. Here is a link to the system Sean uses on his RV tires.

Know How to Drive in this Situation

If you do experience a front tire blowout while driving, the best thing to do is to stay calm and slowly ease off the accelerator. Do not brake suddenly, as this could cause you to lose control of the RV or even cause the RV to roll. Instead, gently apply the brakes and steer straight ahead until you come to a stop. Once you’ve stopped, turn on your hazard lights and call for help.

We hope you found this episode helpful. Remember, by taking some simple precautions, you can help prevent a front tire blowout in your RV. Stay safe on the road!
