Beyond The Wheel

Ep. 79 Driver’s Edition – Temp Stick, NJ Parking, Ember RV, & Winnebago

Temp Stick – New Sponsor

We recently interviewed Jason Miller CEO of Temp Stick. Jason was so impressed with how the interview came out and our knowledge of RVing that he would like Temp Stick to be a new sponsor of the show. We hope you will welcome Temp Stick to the Beyond The Wheel family by visiting their website. If you purchase anything while there be sure to let them know you heard of them through us. I have been using Temp Stick for over three years and Sean just picked one up to protect his dog, Toby.

Temp Sick is going to sponsor every episode until the rest of the year along with our long-time sponsors Battle Born Batteries.

Personal Safety

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on personal safety, Sean and I talk often about safety products and how they can help your RV, but I wanted to comment on your safety. I feel like there has been an increase in stories of people being attacked or killed while camping/RVing. Sean and I share some stories from our travels and situations where we felt it necessary to change locations.

Drivers Edition

New Ordinance to allow RV Day Parking In Seaside Heights

Seaside Heights NJ officials last week introduced an ordinance that would allow recreational vehicles, better known by their acronym RVs, to park in the borough for the day as officials plan to make the town more RV-friendly.

Under the ordinance, RVs would be allowed to utilize the borough’s municipally-owned but commercially operated lots to park their vehicles. The ordinance would limit RV parking to the hours of 8 a.m. to midnight and would prohibit overnight parking and other ancillary activities. Currently, RV parking is banned.

“These people come from all over the place to our beautiful town and they cannot have a recreational vehicle parked anywhere in Seaside Heights,” said Councilman Harry Smith

Smith said the plan, as envisioned by officials, would be to create a more formal RV parking area within the bayside parking lot near the entrance to the town from Route 37. It would have the proper equipment and would allow an RV contingent to stay together.

“People come down here and we tell them, ‘you can’t park anywhere,’” said Mayor Anthony Vaz. “If we give them an area, they will enjoy that. They can walk to the boardwalk and they won’t need to park a car.”

“The permission of parking does not permit idling, running a generator, and certainly not occupying additional space for grilling,” said Borough Attorney Jean Cipriani. “This ordinance only permits parking – it would not permit any of these additional activities.”

New RV Manufacturer in Indiana

Northern Indiana is adding another recreational vehicle maker to what is known as the “RV Capital of the World.” Ember Recreational Vehicles announced it will invest $4 million to build a facility in Elkhart County.

RV manufacturers in the Hoosier State make 80 percent of the RVs in the country, contributing more than $32 billion to the state’s economy annually.

Ember President and CEO Ashley Bontrager Lehman comes from a family that founded a major RV manufacturer. She said in a statement northern Indiana is the perfect location with the large industry presence already. Company officials said they believe it can be competitive with other manufacturers.

Ember will produce lightweight travel trailers.

Winnebago Moves Corporate Headquarters to Minnesota

Spokesperson Chad Reece said the company expects to continue producing vehicles in northern Iowa, where Winnebago employs about 2,100 workers in Charles City, Forest City, Lake Mills, and Waverly. Reece said company leaders only wanted to change the address “to align with where the executive offices are.”
